Walking into Galleria Dolce, you feel the slower pace of a European café. There’s a couch corner with plants; artwork on the walls; a half-dozen tables divide the couches from the bakery case. The father-daughter team of Paul and Sabrina Labbadia (her sister bought and runs Scialo Bros. Bakery on Federal Hill in Providence) are intent on creating a laid-back space just like Napoli. Customers may stop by for coffee and pastry; for breakfast (toasts and smoothies); for lunch (panini and weekend specials of pizza strips, calzones or spinach pie); or for tasty takeout treats.

Adorning the walls is a shifting exhibit by local artists, which can be enjoyed along with the expected variations of coffee or the unexpected affogato: espresso with gelato. The bakery offers Italian-imported tortes and cheesecake; house-made cookies, brownies, wine biscuits, breadsticks and pound cake.

The go-tos at Galleria Dolce are house-made cannoli, either traditional, with ricotta and chocolate chips, or Sicilian with ricotta, orange zest and crushed pistachios. Or join the “tea party” hosted monthly by Sabrina. For Easter, the Labbadia duo will bake traditional rice pie and pizzagaina, a double-crusted quiche-like pie. Mangia, mangia!
